Our Weekend

We had a great weekend.....starting with a New Orleans Hornets game on Friday night. They played the Philadelphia 76ers. We went with a big group and had the cheap seats. It was such a tight game, but the Hornets pulled it off in OT. It was a lot of fun.
Sunday we found our church home in New Orleans. Williams Blvd Baptist was so welcoming, and John Faull is an incredible pastor, preacher, and man of God. We were able to talk with him some after the service. (He was at FBC Atlanta for 12 years as an associate pastor, and has been at Williams for a little less than a year) Sunday night after church we went to a Seminary "meet and greet" at one of the churchmembers homes. They shared their vision for seminary students, and it was amazing. Asah and I both left knowing that Williams is the place we are to attend, serve, worship, and plug in for however long were down here.
You can check them out at www.williamsblvd.org.
That's about all the news from here. Please pray for me because tomorrow (2/1) is the "go live" date for me as Business Administrator of NOBM, Inc. Although I've been down here preparing for the past two weeks, this week will be the first week of actual daily transactions, etc.
I hope everyone has a great week, and we'd love to hear from you if you ever want to "comment" on this site. (Hint, hint).
I promise to try to get Asah to post something soon!

The Office....

I moved into the office today. Hilarious. It is very 70's. Red carpet....with a stove, kitchen sink, and small bathroom. I think it used to be a dorm room. I just kind of laughed when I first walked in because it struck me funny that there's a stove in my office. That's okay though, if I'm really busy I can put some pasta roni on to cook and keep on working. It will work just fine. A very nice space and very nice to be only about 100 yards away from our apartment. Yep. I'm shouting distance from my office. How cool is that????
Asah and I went out this evening and purchased some supplies for the office at Officemax. He was going all over the store, lugging boxes to the register and apparently the manager was impressed. She asked if he needed a job. Yes! A job would be nice. So he filled out the application on the spot. Maybe he'll be an office supplies professional sometime in the near future.
That's the news for today. We're going to order in Chinese and watch American Idol. Last night's show showcased New Orleans. I hear it was wild. (I was in class and missed it!!)
It is so hot here! I'm wearing shorts and it's late January. That is insane.
We miss everyone, but we are really enjoying it here. We were talking today about how much simpler life seems, and how much we're gaining from actually being on campus. Asah-focused on school, me-focused on a job, but also making friends and getting involved. It's great!

God Bless.

Napoleon Dynamite

This weekend we watched "Napoleon Dynamite" for the 3rd time. Each time we watch it I feel a little less intelligent.
But it sure is funny. I thought this post might be good to see what everyone's favorite lines from the movie are.
Here are mine and Asah's (in no specific order):
"Why don't you make yourself a dang quesa-dilla"
"Whatever I feel like, Gosh!"
"Tina, why don't you come eat some ham"
"I caught you a delicious bass"
"Are you drinking 1% because you think you're fat, because you could drink whole milk if you wanted to"
"Peace out"
Okay, that should get the ball rolling.
If you haven't seen it, rent it. You may or may not be glad that you did.

This weekend we also visited the 2nd church on our list of "churches to visit". FBCNO. It was good, and the Sunday school class for young married couples was rockin'. We enjoyed it and there were a lot of people we knew there. Next week we are heading to Williams Blvd.

That's about all the news for now. Still not in an office. Soon, I hope.

Have a great week.

Fellowship

Last night I went to the seminary wives fellowship and LOVED it. Judi Jackson spoke on "Abigail" and we also heard a little from Rhonda Kelley (she's the president's wife and will be teaching the Tuesday night classes). Anyway, it was really really good.
Tonight we have a pizza party with all the Willingham residents. Should be fun.

We discovered the New Orleans "Varsity"!!!!!!!

Last night we ate at Bud's Broiler. It was very similar to the Varsity. Rude staff, greasy burgers, onion rings. I LOVED it. A little taste of Atlanta, GA. I'm sure it will become a favorite.....

Tonight is Student Wives Fellowship, and I'm excited about going and getting involved there. Asah has two more new classes today. We are really enjoying it here......

The heater mystery...solved.

For the past few days here it's been REALLY cold. We thought that our apartment didn't have heat, or that it hadn't been activated yet, so we simply walked around in sweats and layers of clothing hoping it would eventually warm up. Asah finally broke down and called maintenance last night when we reached the point that we were about to freeze. They asked if we'd turned it on. We were not aware that the window air units are also heaters!!!! Talk about feeling stupid. We got a good laugh out of that.

Asah began class today, and I'm still working from Willingham for the time being. On Monday I can possibly move into my office....so that's good news.

Asah has "class" (es)

Asah is all registered!
Here's what he's taking this semester:

Encountering the Biblical World
Intro to Biblical Hermeneutics
Servant Leadership
Principals of Church Planting and Renewal
Church Evangelism

Sounds like he'll be having lots of fun. He applied at a Starbucks yesterday near Loyola....very unique atmosphere in a historic area of town. He's out to search for more jobs today.

Meanwhile, I began aerobics this morning. 6am! Rhonda and I enjoyed laughing at our uncoordinated selves. It was fun and I met several new girls....I'm liking it a lot.

Have a great Tuesday!

Love,

Date Night and Church.....

Last night we had our first New Orleans date. We went to see Fat Albert and eat at Semolina's (so far this is my FAVORITE Italian restaraunt). The movie was kind of silly, but the food was great.

We visited Edgewater Baptist this morning and saw a lot of familiar faces....some couples from our apartments and some friends from Georgia. It was pretty good but we're going to do a lot of visiting before deciding where to attend regularly.

That's about all the news for today. We have all boxes unpacked except the ones that will eventually go to my office that will be on campus. I won't get to set it up until Feb 1....so I'm working from our little abode for the time being.

Love to all our friends and family!

We're Here!

Well, we're finally here, and somewhat settled.....The trip down was fairly uneventful, except for the first 5 minutes of it. We were leaving Bainbridge (Asah's hometown) and I was following the Uhaul. He went through a yellow light and I ran the red light because I needed to stay with him. (I had no idea where I was). Anyway, there was a cop directly across from us in the intersection, so guess who got stopped? Asah had no idea and just kept on truckin down the road in the Uhaul. The cop proved to be quite the intelligent one. "Ya'll movin?". Nah, just thought we'd take a Uhaul out for a spin at 5:05 am. He let me go with a warning. "There are a lot of cars out on the road". I wanted to ask him where, but thought better of it. So then I try to catch up with Asah but he's nowhere to be found. 20 minutes later we were reunited thanks to cellphones and his parents helping figure out where I was.

The apartment is so tiny, but we are making it home. The walls in the living/dining room/kitchen are mustard yellow (this is the same room) and the color in our bedroom is called "magellan blue". I think my favorite is the bedroom color. It turned out awesome! We didn't bring too much stuff (except maybe for my clothes). But we did go out and buy a pantry from Lowes because we had no place to store food.
Asah has orientation on Monday and Tuesday. Once he has his schedule his plan is to look for a job.
That's about all the news from here. We'll try to update this thing regularly so our friends/family can keep up with us.
I also thought it would be cool to post prayer requests here as well. God has already done so much in paving the way for us to be down here. It's pretty amazing when you think about it. Maybe Asah and I can sit down and write that out for a post sometime soon. This morning I read something that Lucado wrote in his book, When Christ Comes. "Anytime you speak he listens, make a request, and He responds." We are trusting God with the sale/rental of our home at the moment, and those words reminded me that God is listening when we pray about our home......and that He'll respond in due time. Please join us in praying for the sale of 2816 Golden Club Bend.

We love and miss you!
