Project Hope

This summer I had the opportunity to teach money management at the Baptist Friendship House. This is one of the centers that I work with as Business Administrator. Being able to teach once a week was a great break from the "normal routine" for me. Teaching this group of girls was a very different experience! I am glad that I had the opportunity to do this. I really, really enjoyed it. I wanted to post a picture of the group.....please pray for them as they head back to school in a few weeks. Pray that their experience at the Baptist Friendship House this summer will change their lives!

leavin on a jet plane...

tomorrow morning i fly back to new orleans (thru atlanta). i must say that i have really missed "home" while gone for 7 days.
top 5 things i've missed:

1. joel asah hudgins: after 2 years of marriage, i still cannot stand to be away from him for more than a day or so....and that's a good thing.
2. my bed: we have comfy sheets.
3. work: ???? who misses that? i'm glad to say that i love my job, although sometimes busy, and i'm ready to get back to it.
4. cooking: i haven't cooked anything in a week, so i miss that...
5. sleep: we've been pretty much nonstop out here, so i'm ready for a little rest.

well, that's about it.

the trip has been great and i've learned a lot. pictures are forthcoming. i haven't been able to get on anything but dial-up out here, and pics take awhile to upload that way. but never fear, i'll be back in the land of high speed soon, and will share some pretty amazing pictures with you guys.

love,

feelin hot, hot, hot!

it's wednesday and a free day for the vegas mission team. our group is going to drive up mt. charleston (i think there's still snow on top of it) and have a picnic. it's supposed to be a full 30 degrees cooler than las vegas at any given time. sounds like a great place to be right now!! i've included a pic so you can get a visual of where we'll be.
tonight we'll come back for night #3 of bible school. during bible school a group called Koinonia is holding a youth rally outside. last night 6 teenagers accepted Christ. praise God!
i'm really enjoying it here.
till next time,

i'm melting!

hey all.
sorry for the lack of posts. i'm in vegas, asah's workin hard. it is SO HOT here. when i say that i don't mean south ga hot or new orleans humid and hot. i mean, there are no words to describe the heat here. you know how you open your oven door when you're baking something at around 450 degrees....that rush of heat that comes out....that is how it feels here constantly. the first day it was around 122 degrees. i'm serious. and last night driving home around 9:30pm local time the guage in the van read 108. no joke. so i can now say i'm truly experienced the desert.
apart from the heat, things here are just grand. i'm enjoying working with el camino baptist church. we are helping canvas neighborhoods to give them info on the church, and we're helping with vbs. i'm working with 5th and 6th graders @ night.
so anyway, there's the mission trip update.
tonight we're going to the strip...tomorrow is a free day. may go to hoover dam or other places....i'm going to try to stay indoors as much as possible so i wont bake too much before flying back to la.
well, have a great week and i'll try to keep this as updated as possible!

anniversary date!

we had a wonderful anniversary. asah brought me roses after he got off work. we got dressed up and headed to mortons for a steak. it was very very good and we had told them it was our anniversary so our table was decorated, we had "Happy Anniversary" menus and we got free dessert! yesterday i got a great deal via email from travelzoo (they send top 20 travel deals each week to my inbox). the Omni hotel in the french quarter had rooms @ 85 a night. (Compared to the normal rate of 300!!) so we snagged a room and got a free upgrade because it was our anniversary. it had a balcony overlooking the quarter. just beautiful. so we slept in a little this morning then headed to work. GREAT anniversary. i recommend small getaways like that, even if it is only 10 minutes away from your house.
well, that's about all. today it's back to work and it seems like i'll never catch up! i'm buried! please pray i'll be able to catch up before leaving for my mission trip on saturday, my fear is coming back to mountains of paperwork! but it's inevitable! such is the nature of this job.
well, happy wednesday to all who read this.
i'll try to post some pics of our trip to GA before i leave on saturday.

whirlwind

the past few days have been a whirlwind. we thought we were going to be stuck in GA because of Mr. Dennis the Hurricane. We made the decision to drive back on Saturday, and I'm glad we did. We didn't even get a lot of rain here. I am now back at work and working hard. I will be leaving on Saturday for a mission trip to Vegas with the church I grew up in,Northside Baptist in Tifton, GA. We'll be doing backyard bible clubs, VBS, etc. Pretty exciting.
On Friday, my stepsister Jessica had her baby boy. So while in GA we met our new neice (Alida Rose) and saw (from the nursery window) our new nephew. His name is Sumner Lee Powell.
Asah starts his first youth small group tonight in Hammond, so please keep him in your prayers. This is a great first step and he's been preparing all of June for this! They'll meet at PJ's coffee house in Hammond.
That's about all for now. Our 2 year anniversary is tomorrow! I'm excited about going out to a nice dinner with my husband of 2 years.
have a good week.

snoball mania

here are pictures of my cute husband making snoballs for the kids at Crossroads. he helped out with this event earlier this week.
i think he'll make a great daddy one day.

my new favorite hole in the wall

my new favorite hole in the wall close to the seminary is teddy's. they serve wonderful poboys. i posted a picture so you can experience it with me. i've been there twice this week and enjoyed the turkey poboy. the difference there is they butter and grill the bread. AMAZING. By the way, that's a Barg's root beer in the picture for those who were wondering. ha ha. i think poboys are my favorite thing about new orleans.

we are looking forward to the weekend. well, i am. asah is working lots. yucky.
